When you visit Villa Alba look carefully at the ceiling, painted in the form of a sky spaced with four triangular panels resplendent with a wealth of horticultural and floricultural specimens and delicate butterflies.
Among the original furnishings purchased for this room were five magnificent satinwood display cabinets. One of these, is in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria. The original satinwood, inlaid with blackwood over-mantel is painted with scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was discovered in an antique shop in Canterbury, purchased and returned to Villa Alba.
